As a young person, you have a set of rights in the digital world which at Young Scot we do our best to support. While these 5Rights are for those under 18, we will extend these rights to all users on our platforms.

Your Right to Remove

‘Sometimes I regret what I post online and wish there was some easy way to make it disappear.’

While the Young.Scot platform itself does not take any uploads or comments, we do produce and host content that might feature stories or photos of young people.

  • Our policy requires us to have already received your consent and permission before publishing anything about you. But if that has not been the case, or you have changed your mind, you can get in touch with us via info@young.scot to ask us to remove the content.

  • If you have a Rewards account with us which you would like to delete, you can get in touch with us via rewards@young.scot at any time. We will make sure your account and Rewards records are removed as soon as possible.

    Please note that your account will be deleted once you have turned 26. You will receive notification from us about this one month before your 26th birthday.

Your Right to Know

‘We should know who is holding and profiting from our information’

The Young.Scot and the Young Scot Rewards platforms never collect unnecessary personal information about you – any personal information that we do ask for is essential to your experience on our platform.

  • On the Rewards platform, we will only share your information with Points Providers and Rewards Providers participating in the Rewards programme and, if necessary and applicable, their group companies. Your information will only be used for the sole purpose of the management and delivery of the Rewards programme.

  • When you access Young.Scot and the Young Scot Rewards platforms, we will automatically have access to limited personal information about you via cookies. This includes your site searches, what pages on our website you have visited, what videos you have watched from our website, your location (from your IP address), your device information (e.g. whether you are on your phone, tablet or computer), and whether you are a new visitor or a returning user.

    Additionally, if you are logged into a Google or YouTube account, we can see limited demographic information such as your age, your gender and your interests.

    The information we have access to is completely anonymous, we would never be able to identify anyone from it. We use all this information to look at who is accessing our site, to help us generate content that is more relevant to you.

Your Right to Safety and Support

‘There is too much emphasis on what is illegal and not enough about what is unpleasant or distressing.’

Young Scot takes our responsibilities to your welfare and wellbeing seriously.

  • Young.Scot and the Young Scot Rewards platforms are positive spaces for you to access information and be connected to opportunities. We curate our content carefully, and we never intend to cause harm or distress. We also do not perform or condone any illegal practices. All of our partners are also carefully selected by us to ensure that you have an enjoyable and positive experience.

  • However, if you do see anything upsetting on our platforms, we encourage you to talk to someone. The Young Scot InfoLine (tel: 0808 801 0338) is a great service that can direct you to the right people to speak to, or you can get in touch with us via one of our social media channels. You can also get in touch with us via email: infoline@young.scot.

  • If you need any support specifically around Young Scot Rewards, you can email our Rewards team via rewards@young.scot.

  • You can call ChildLine (tel: 0800 1111). In our footer, you will also find a link to the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre website, which contains advice that you might find helpful.

Your Right to Informed and Conscious Use

‘Unless we understand the technologies we use daily we can’t control how they make us behave.’

At Young Scot, we support and encourage you to manage your time and balance your online and offline activities. Sometimes we can feel addicted to technology – we have some useful advice on how to keep a positive mind.

  • Our online content and activities are designed to be short, so you can engage and leave easily. There are no added benefits for staying on, and there are certainly no penalties if you choose to leave our website. You can come and go as you please.
